Hello Maja Fans! Gabrielle here with you today to share my first layout using the NEW Limited Edition ‘Nyhavn’ collection!  I really love the sunny, pretty colors in this collection, and when I saw the nautical elements in the papers, I knew that I had found the perfect papers to scrap a photo I took of my niece and her hubby.

Nyhavn-P

My niece’s reception was at a yacht club, and she chose nautical elements for her decor.  Add to that, her wedding colors where orange and blue, two colors that are prevalent in this lovely collection.  So when I saw Nyhavn, I knew this was just the ticket to get this photo scrapped!

I used ‘The Sunny Side’ paper as my base and dabbed a little Ingvild Bolme chalk inks (Rusty Keys, Vintage Pink) around my photo area and the small cluster in the top right side of the page.  I then added a bit of texture with some home-made texture paste and a few Crafters Workshop Stencils (North Star, Art Is, Time Travel).

I mounted this orange paper on the ‘Sitting at the Dock’ paper, I also used this paper as the matting behind my photo. I cropped  it to look like uneven pieces of weathered board. All the chipboard I used on this page is from Dusty Attic (Elegant Swirl #3, Elegant Swirl 13, Word Pack #4, Skeleton Clock Frames). I kept the chipboard bare with just touches of grey and white to stay with the weather wood look of the papers. I also did a little bit of stamping with a Graphic45 stamp set.

The lovely pearl/lace strip running down the left side of the page is from Tresors de Luxe, and the blooms where one of my favorite finds (from a couple years ago) at Michaels, I got a 6 pack of these blossoms for $1.50!!  Sadly most of them were sold out by the time I got to them, but I was happy to get my hands of the few that were there!

I hope you enjoyed my project for today using the Nyhavn collection papers and hope that I’ve inspired you to give this lovely collection a go (remember,…it’s a Limited Edition paper, so when they are gone, they are gone!  So grab yours while you can!)

Something Sweet For Grandparents

Hello, Maja Fans!

Welcome to the blog today, Maja here to share some sweet inspiration and a tutorial 🙂

In Poland, on 21st and 22nd of January we celebrate Grandmother’s and Grandfather’s Days. This is one of the most important family occassions to celebrate – who has greater love and patience towards kids than grandparents? And so for this occassions I created little chocolate boxes that are actually a 2-in1 thing, with the space to write in some wishes:

mdczekI used our latest release, the Nyhavn limited edition collection and some cut-outs from the Vintage Autumn Basics collection to decorate the boxes. Here’s the box for Grandma:

mdczek1I used chipboard key and keyholder, die-cut doily, flowers, cheesecloth, pearl brad and washi tapes to make it look nicely vintage:

mdczek2And here’s the inside: the space to the left is for the wishes, and to the right with a little pocket to put a chocolate bar into:

mdczek5And here’s the one for Grandpa:

mdczek3Whoa, I managed without a single flower! 😀 Instead, I used chipboard gears, die-cut vintage vehicle, cut-out balloons, washi tapes and a metal retro brad to make it look vintage and masculine:

mdczek4And the inside:

mdczek6Would you like to make similar ones? It’s very, very simple! 🙂 Begin with measuring the chocolate bar you wish to give and estimate the measurements for your base, adding a quarter of an inch to the width and length of the front and back side and a quarter for the “spine”. My measurements for the standard 100g chocolate bar are 8×8 inches and scored at 3 3/4″ and 4 1/4″:

mtczekWhen you fold the scores, you get something that looks like book covers:

mtczek1Now cut some papers of your choice for the outer and inner decorations. With Maja papers you’d need about four layers of paper on each “wing” to make it sturdy enough to hold the chocolate bar. And so I cut two pieces for each outer cover and one for each inside cover – together with the base it makes four layers for the wing. I also cut two slim strips for the spine. The measurements are so that, when layered, a 1/8″ frame is visible. The smallest piece of paper is the space for the wishes:

mtczek2Now you need to make the pocket for the chocolate bar – I made a white template for you to see better. Make sure the width of the front of the pocket is 1/8″ less than the width of the side, otherwise you won’t be able to close the box. Mine measurements are: 7 5/8″ wide and 4 1/2″ high, scored at 1 1/2″, 2″, 5 5/8″ and 6 1/8″ on the width and 3 1/8″, 3 5/8″ on the height. Then cut out the areas that are crossed out in the photo:

mtczek3After that you should have such piece:

mtczek4Fold the scores and glue them on the back, forming a dimensional pocket. Make sure the bottom piece goes outside so that it doesn’t hinder sliding in the chocolate bar:

mtczek5Now you can start assembling your box: open the base flat and glue the piece of ribbon across the middle – this will stabilise the “construction:

mtczek6Decorate the inside covers – you should make it flat so that the boxes may close easily. If you want to mae some dimensional embellishment, add the dimension to the width of the spine while preparing the base!

mtczek7Decorate the outer covers – first layer and decorate the panels and then attach them to the base: I recommend double-sided tape for strong permanent fixture. For the outside, you can be as dimensional as you wish 🙂

mtczek8Finally attach the chocolate pocket:

mtczek9The order of decorating the sides enables you to press the layers firmly – if you e.g. attach the dimensional outers first, you won’t be able to press the insides firmly to make sure they stick 🙂

Easy peasy, isn’t it?

Happy New Year Maya friends! It’s me Heidi blogging my first post today. I’m so excited to be asked to join this amazing designteam with so many talented girls. I’m looking so much forward to work with the Maya papers, and I have so many amazing projects to share with you in 2015.

IMG_3086

Today I have made a card for a boy using papers from both the Nyhavn and Vintage Frost Basic collections. I love the Vintage- and Shabby Chic style, and both my paper projects and my home decor are influenced by that.

IMG_3082

To make this card I have used both new and old embellishments, and I have put it together layer by layer. I have sewn with my sewing machine around the edges of the papers, distressed them and I have also add some white Gesso.

Crafting has always been a passion of mine, and since I discovered the amazing world of papercraft years ago I have been completely addicted to it. I love the shabby chic- and vintage style and most of my projects are characterized by the use of vintage photos, lace, flowers and romantic details

December on the Swedish west coast is always a story about rain and wind. How the wet cold finds it’s way through all the clothes you so carefully put on in the morning and makes you soaked before you cross the threshold to the office. It makes it very easy to let your thoughts wonder away to a sunny Paris.

parisI have had the privilege to play with our new Nyhavn collection during the Lucia weekend. As always it’s a pure joy. Don’t miss the fact that it’s a limited one so when it’s gone it’s gone. And. You get a bonus sheet if you buy the collection pack. It is not sold as a single sheet so it’s an extra treat. paris_1We went to Paris on our wedding anniversary a couple of years ago. It’s lovely to just stroll around Montmartre and soak the romantic atmosphere. I have used laces and tulle from a LSS and Michaels.

I love the modern, but still romantic feel of this collection. I had a really hard time to tear these lovely sheets apart this time. Our last limited collection Sofiero sold out so quickly so I never got the chanse to replace my favourite sheets. Wise from the lesson it feels like I need to open up a bottle of champagne and make it a ceremonious ritual for every single sheet that I use.
paris_2Flowers by Prima, Michaels and Magnolia. Metal from Prima, bling from LSS and Michaels.paris_3Funny thing. I got this tulle a month ago thought the colour was lovely. And then Marie releases Nyhavn with the exact same colour. It’s not the first time. Our style is very similar. Resin from Prima.paris_4

The lovely chipboard is from ScrapFX and has been painted and inked with three different colours (Ingvild Bolme and Tim Holtz inks). Roses from Wild Orchid Crafts. Doily die by Prima.

I hope you got inspired by my first Nyhavn creation, it will definitely not be my last. I am completely in love with the Old Townhouses sheet and must use it asap… For this layout I have used the following sheets:

Old Townhouses
A Dockside In Bloom
Romantic Lunch
Strolling Along The Canal
Veteran Ships
Eating Out
Sitting At The DockJenny
