Hello everyone! Nadia here again with you today !  I hope all is well with you.
Today I wanted to show you a layout I created with the gorgeous Crea Diem collection and the absolutely gorgeous Sofiero from Maja Design . I REALLY love the soft pinks in both these collections and for this layout I added a touch of orange to match my baby girl’s top!

“Delight”

This layout was also inspired by my talented friend Riikka’s tutorial in the Pop & Colours #2 online workshops , and the composition of it was based on Shirel’s take on Riikka’s class. Thank you girls for the incredible inspiration you have provided in these workshops. I am also teaching a class at these workshops and you will find the information on that HERE

I started by preparing the base paper, which is the “Royal Summer Residence” paper from the Sofiero collection , with Gesso. Just a light layer so it withstands the mixed media mediums I will place on it.

I then cut strips from the “Fylld av kärlek” paper from the Crea Diem collection and placed them behind the place where my photo will be. I added some modelling paste with a stencil directly on top and then added some stamping when that was dried.

I then, following the ideas of the tutorial,  took out a number of colour mists, inks etc in the same tones and applied them with some water and brush. Others I applied directly with tip of the mist bottle to give it a different finish.

Here is a close up of the Manor House Creations flowers I have used.

And some more gorgeous purple flowers from Manor House Creations. In the image above you can also see some strips of the Crea Diem papers I used on my background.

Materials List

Paper Collection: Cream Diem –  “Fylld av kärlek” ,  Sofiero- “Royal Summer Residence”

Flowers: Manor House Creations : “Imagine”- Berry Pink , “Sunflower” – Purple

Happy New Year!  Hello, Maja Design fans and friends!  Nancy Hanttula here….back again, and super excited to be on the Maja Design Creative Team for 2014.  I am so humbled to be amongst some of the greatest paper crafting industry “celebrities.”  The ladies on this team are just that, paper crafting superstars!  and I know we all have a whole lot of amazing projects to share with you during 2014!  So, if you haven’t signed up to receive the Maja Design blog posts (delivered directly to your e-mail inbox) you better do it now…you are not going to want to miss the daily inspiration this blog has to offer!

Today I would like to share with you a layout I created for my dear friend and cousin, using the gorgeous Vintage Autumn Basics paper collection, along with a little Vintage Spring Basics.

pretty baby

When I saw this darling photo of baby Eden, I knew the Vintage Autumn Basics paper collection would be perfect to capture the whimsical feel of the photo.

Eden

AND, because I am not one to ever waste a scrap of paper left over from any other project, I also used Vintage Spring Basics (7th of April) in my design.  I had punched some little folk shaped hearts, and used the piece of paper I used to punch them out.  The other piece of Vintage Spring Basics paper I used here (1st of May) can be seen layered on top of the background paper.

using scraps

The laser cut cardstock doilies are from Gina’s Designs.  Because they were a solid white, I didn’t want them to get lost on the page (they are so beautifully delicate), so using a black permanent pen, I colored them black, but only in the lighter parts of the page where they blended into the lighter backgrounds.

doily detail 2

So actually, they are black and white.

I also hand-cut out some roses to embellish my design.  I cut the roses from the beautiful Vintage Autumn Basics paper, No. II.  Using some adherent foam, I raised them at different levels to add dimension.

hand-cut roses

Vintage Autumn Basics papers used for this layout included:  No. XVII (background); No. VI (clover-leaf type flower strip); No. II (rose border strip); No. IV (striped punched border); & No. II (hand-cut roses).

Vintage-Autumn-Basics

Vintage Spring Basics papers used for this included:  1st of May (2nd layer placed over the background paper); 7th of April (punched heart border piece).

Other supplies used here included:  Martha Stewart black lace; Martha Stewart deep edge border punch; butterflies from Reneabouquets; laser-cut cardstock doilies from Gina’s Designs; cameo from BoBunny; bling from Zva Creative, “adorable” sticker from Teresa Collins.

Thanks for looking!  and CHEERS to a wonderfully creative 2014!

Hugs!

Hello Maja Friends. Elena is blogging with you today.

I have a Layout I made for my Family Memories album

VAMajaDesignMain

I love that photo of me and my husband while we were waiting for our baby boy. I suppose i have already scrapped it once, but I couldn’t resist to create a page again with new Vintage Autumn Basics collection. I choose a dark background and added some splashes of white and light blue

IMG_9967

I made some fussy cutting as well as some torn paper layers, just a bit of mixed media work on the background as the paper design is so gorgeous that I didn’t want to hide it.

IMG_9972  I randomly sprinkled micro beads and added some flowers and chipboard title.

Hello, here is a LO I did, using the Beautiful Vintage Autumn Basics Collection…..

I took these photos of Baby Kaylie, in my garden……..

From the Vintage Autumn Basics Collection I used: No.IV,No.III-BS,No.V,No.IX,No.IX-BS,No.X,No.X-BS,No.XVII,&some of the BS’s of the labels. The chipboard used is from Dusty Attic. Here are some closeups of detail….

I first scanned & printed the Lace Boarder, on plain paper. I then painted it with oyster LuminArte’. I used a non-permanent adhesive, & glued the scanned piece of paper, onto the BS, of the piece of Maja paper, I was working with. I then cut out the pieces & glued them onto the chipboard. My next step was to glue a thin hemp string, on to the outside edges of the hearts. I then applied a thin coat of rock candy crackle. I punched out the tiny circles, with my eyelet punch, glued them onto the boarder, then put a drop of liquid accents, on to each circle. I inked the edges of the boarder, & wove in the hemp string through the holes on the top of the boarder. I also inked the edges of the BS of one of the labels & glued it on to the boarder. I like doing this, so that I get a perfect color match….

I made the headband for Kaylie, took my photos, then used it on the LO….

I did the same treatment on the elegant flourish as I had done on the Lace Boarder. This also shows some of my distressed stitched layers, some punch work & a Tim Holtz doily die….

This is how I made the headband,I made it even before I received the Vintage Autumn Basics Collection. I got a sneak peek of the Collection, printed the sneak peek, then started on the headband, hoping my colors were right. I went through my Scrap supplies, finding feathers, crocheted lace trim & doily’s, pearls died some cheesecloth, then went to work on the headband……

I first stitched these two pieces together, leaving spaces ,so that I could weave in the pearls…

Then, I weaved in the pearls…

I used a glue gun & glued the doily’s &  the cheesecloth, onto the lace trim…

I then embellished the crocheted flower, using bling & feathers & more pearls. I stitched on a piece of ribbon, on to the ends of the headband,so that I would be able, to tie it on Kaylies head..

Where I used yellow, I mixed a bit of studio yellow paint, with picket fence crackle. Then I rubbed in brown chalk to bring out the cracks & inked the edges….I also added a coat of glossy accents on the raised part of the bike. On the wheels & basket of the bike I used watered down gesso, then inked the edges. I also added some pearls…..

Scrapping in a Masculine Style {Vintage Autumn Basics}

Tempus Fugit-xamll

Hi everyone, it’s me, Gabrielle here with you today!  As most of you know by now, I have two daughters and no sons so most of my scrapping is done in a more feminine style.  But I do have a bunch of handsome nephews and my dear husband that I occasionally get to scrap, so I was so thrilled to see that the new ‘ Vintage Autumn Basics’ collection has a big variety of both masculine and feminine paper designs.

Vintage-Autumn-Basics

I recently recieved this beautiful collection and while normally I automatically reach for the more feminine papers, this time around I wanted to scrap in a more masculine style.  I had this photo of my dear husband Steve and my cutie-pie nephew Jared at a retirement party for Steve’s older brother.  The title on the page ‘Tempus Fugit’ (Latin for ‘Time Flies’) was just perfect for this photo!  It seems like yesterday that we were baby sitting my young nephews when Steve’s brother and his wife would go on trips, and now my BIL is passing down the reigns of his company to my nephews!  Time really does fly! (the little girls you sometimes see me scrapping are Jared’s little girls!).

For this page I went with the ‘time’ theme and used lots of the clock images in this collection, as well as layering a number of the patterned papers.  I started out by fussy cutting out a bunch of the clock designs.

Tempus Fugit close3

Here I used one of the clock chipboard designs from Dusty Attic, but I cut and pasted one of the clocks from the Vintage Autumn Basics papers to the face of the clock.  I dressed the chipboard up a bit by using a bronze metalic paint and adding some dots and details (I used Scribbles Bronze paint….from Michaels).  The zipper is also a chipboard design from Dusty Attic (I wanted to try and stick to masculine style embellishments for the majority of the the decorations.

Tempus Fugit close2

I had this cute metal stopwatch embellishment that I found at Michaels, I didn’t love the clock design they had used on this embellishment, so again I cut out one of the clock designs from the Maja paper, tinted the edges lightly with blue chalk ink and pasted it on the clock. The chipboard gears are Dusty Attic, as are the roses…the larger blue flowers are from Petaloo (Darjeeling collection….I think the are are really good match to the Maja collection).

Tempus Fugit close1

I always like to use scraps of burlap for masculine layouts, I think it adds that nice textural element to the page that lace usually adds to my more feminine pages.  Another nice masculine element to use is corrugated cardboard, metal, buttons and chipboard elements.  Here is a list of the Maja goodies I used on this page….

Supplies:  Maja Design “Vintage Autumn Basics collection” ~ (No. XIX, No. XIII-bs, No. XVI)

I hope you enjoyed my masculine style page today, and hope you will give this beautiful new collection a try whether you scrap in the masculine or feminine style! xo
