Welcome Maja friends!

I love fireplaces especially on christmas time, it’s a wonderful tradition to hang up socks for every family member. Unfortunately I haven’t a fireplace and so I decided to make this in a small format.

I used papers from various christmas/ winter collections from Maja Design

Want to see how they are made? Here I have some photos from the making.

Steps and tips

As basic an old black wooden frame and the ‘Gnistra’ paper sheet as wonderful neutral background

added with some torned pieces from old music paper, inked with Distress walnut stain

the highlight was the fireplace.

I saw some months ago an idea on Pinterest where a simple plastic frame was used,

I was impressed and went in search for the right frame.

I found this in a One Euro Store, the frame was square

and so I just had to remove the bottom part

really simple, but a cool effect!

Masculine Christmas Cards

Hello Maja Fans,

Christmas is right behind the corner and I guess some of you may still need a few cards to make for their friends.

Today I am going to share a bunch of cards that can be given to men

St.Nicholas Cards_3

Well sometimes it is so tricky to create the card with no flowers, lace and bows. However everyone can manage with it, indeed.

St.Nicholas Cards

I started with creating my background for the cards using the paper from the 6×6 paper pad of Joyous Winterday, and then added the strip at the bottom, I stitched 2 of them together

St.Nicholas Cards_6

I also added the striped ribbon, it adds the accent and looks like an eye catching detail

St.Nicholas Cards_7

and of course I used the images of St.Nicholas

St.Nicholas Cards_1

I added a few paper layers around the image, that I die cut.

St.Nicholas Cards_5

When you create a masculine card you mostly choose the simple shapes for your dies, but actually you can add some intricate detail too.

St.Nicholas Cards_4

and even crochet snowflake can look good for such cards

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Joy of Christmas

Good morning, Maja Friends, welcome to the blog today 🙂

Christmas is just a couple of days ahead and I just can’t wait for the celebration to begin, for the Christmas Eve family gathering, carol singing and eating traditional Polish food delicacies (it is a custom to have twelve courses for the Christmas Eve supper and you must at least try a bit of all of them!) And of course, it’s a great occasion for taking family photos to scrapbook later 😉

But before I take new pictures I still have some old ones that I used for this last layout and post this year:

I’m really happy that Maja releases Monochromes for each collection now! They save me a lot of wondering which paper to sacrifice for the background 😉 Here I layered two Monochromes papers under the main background sheet. Then I added some snowflakes stamps:

mdjoy1

Then I matted the photos with pieces of papers and hand-cut tags and the title using foam gold letter stickers:

mdjoy2

With each sheet, Maja gives you a bonus border on the signature strip. I really love using those snippets 🙂

mdjoy3

I also added the flower cluster containing mulberry flowers, die-cut leaves, a chipboard bauble, a crystal gem and gold metallic ribbon:

mdjoy4

The Playful sheet I chose for my background has a girl image in the bottom left hand corner, which didn’t really match my photos. So I just rolled it over and hid, putting another small flower cluster in between the layers 🙂

Here’s what I used for my layout:

Maja Design papers:

Other: flowers: Petaloo, Wild Orchid Crafts; dies: Magnolia, Sizzix, Craft&You Design; punch: Woodware; stamp: Tim Holtz; chipboard: Scrapiniec; foam letters: American Crafts; felt snowflakes, bling: home&you; ribbon: my stash.

Since this is my last post this year, I’d like to wish you a very merry Christmas, filled with love, peace and joy, and all the best in the New Year!

Hello lovely friends and a big merry welcome to the Maja blog.

Today I am sadly sharing my last project for 2017. And since we are about to celebrate Christmas I just had to create one more layout depicting the season. My previous post here was a Christmas layout using the beautiful Joyous Winterdays, so I decided to use this same collection again but using the reds, greens and creams of this collection. I have added in a little black to help the project pop!

The focus of my project of course is a black and white photo of my eldest son and youngest daughter in a sweet embrace, enjoying the joys of unwrapping presents on Christmas morning in 2010.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I did creating it.

2017-12-19 Merry Christmas 2 021 (800x796)

Below are all the papers I used for “Merry Christmas”. I tore the base of Evergreen to sit upon the Beautiful Pines. I have used the pattern of the pines and made the clusters on my page to look as close to as the pattern.  I cut several of the frames down from the Ephemera paper and layered with torn and cut pieces of the remainder of the reverse of Evergreen. I love the little stars on this. Can’t wait to use this piece for another project. I did some stenciling using texture paste through the Dusty Attic script stencil and whilst it was wet sprinkled a little Dress My Craft Sparkling Dust and left it dry to the texture paste. I also did a little random stamping using a script stamp from my collection with black soot distress ink. I have also powder embossed the quote “Remember the moments in between” with black embossing powder at the left of the layout.

2017-12-19 Merry Christmas 2 009 (800x600)

I have used a number of pieces of Dusty Attic chipboards to help create the design for my project here. The baubles were all inked with black soot distress ink and coated with Distress Crackle Clear Rock Candy to give an aged look to each. Once it dried I dry brushed them with a little white gesso. The pine sprigs which you can see above were wiped with Distress Ink Bundled Sage and also dressed in a little Distress Crackle too. I sprinkled some Diamond Dust over these whilst they were still wet too and left them to dry.

2017-12-19 Merry Christmas 2 012 (600x800)

Here you can see the Antique Frame that I have used to help frame the photo as well as several of the frame mattings from the Ephemera sheet. This was dressed with Gesso, Distress Black Soot ink, Distress Crackle Paint and Diamond Dust.

2017-12-19 Merry Christmas 2 013 (600x800)

I have used a number of different blooms from the 49andMarket Vintage Shades collection in shades of Blues, and Reds. I also added in some little pine cones which I have cut in half to sit on my page flat.

2017-12-19 Merry Christmas 2 015 (600x800)

And from a different view. Here you can see that I have added in some jute cording and also dressed my finished page with a little or a lot of dry brushing to help tone down the colours especially the black. I wanted it to look aged which I think I did achieve here compared to how it look with only the ink.

2017-12-19 Merry Christmas 2 030 (600x800)

Well that is all I have to share with you today. I hope I have inspired you to create something to get into the spirit of Christmas. Or maybe to scrap those special photos you will be taking in the upcoming week.

I would like this opportunity to thank you for all your support this year and to wish you and yours a most festive Christmas season and a very happy New Year.

Stay safe and take care.

Lots of love and hugs………….
