Going masculine with ‘Life by the sea’

My previous blogpost on the Maja Design blog was titled ‘Pretty in pink’. Well, I think that will be enough evidence that I tend to do more girly than masculine lay-outs.  For today’s post I decided to change that. With Maja Design’s ‘Life by the sea’ collection it was love at first sight for me. The papers from this collection have stars, ginghams, text or stripes printed on them and the colours are just perfect for a masculine creation. I have made this lay-out with these beautiful papers.
Sailing 1The photo that I used on this lay-out is one of my father and my little brother. We were in a chair-lift, returning from a trip to the biggest mountain in Budapest. I tried to take some photos of the two of them and actually loved how this one turned out. I loved how peaceful and serene it looks.

Once again I added as many layers as I could to my lay-out. To create the gingham layer I cut out a gingham pattern from the ‘Sailing’ sheet. I adhered it to my lay-out with foamtape and added the other layers of paper on top of it.

Although my photo hasn’t got anything to do with sailing, I couldn’t resist giving my lay-out a bit of a maritime look, as I thought that suited the male photo quite well. To achieve this look I also incorporated some cheese clothing, burlap flowers and a resin seagull in my lay-out. The chipboard pieces that I used are all covered with white embossing powder.

Sailing 3I hope you enjoyed my post and that you will give the more masculine look a try too. Actually each one of the Maja Design collections has at least a couple of sheets that suit this look quite well.

Supplies:

Maja Design: patterned papers (Life by the sea: Nautic, the West Coast, Regatta, Sailing, Sailing-bs, Morning Sing-bs); Dusty Attic: chipboard, Prima Marketing: flowers, resin seagull; Tim Holtz: distress ink; American Crafts: embossing powder, embossing ink.
