Hello, I am excited to share with you a couple canvas’s I did. I really have not worked with canvas, but now I am hooked.I love the way they turned out & they make such a great gift & now I don’t have to purchase shadow box’s. I will do 12 x 12 LO’s for myself, because they fit in my albums, but if I am doing it for someone else, I am going to work with canvas. My inspiration came from Gabi. I first saw Gabi’s STUNNING canvas that she did for her “A New Mixed Media Tutorial Video”, then watched Gabi’s AMAZING Video!!!! After watching Gabi’s video ,I went flying out the door to buy canvas & also stopped off at the hardware store to buy drywall tape. Here is my 1st canvas, it is a 8 x 10, I put it on a backing just to take the photo……

I took this photo of this beautiful baby girl, playing dress up of course. I used the beautiful Vintage Summer Basics Collection…..

From this collection I used: 1899, & 1891. The chipboard is from Scrap Fx. Here are some close ups of detail…..

I also purchased a couple drywall repair patches at the hardware store, they give amazing texture. On all the chipboard I either used picket fence crackle or bisque liquid pearls. When the crackle dried, I rubbed in some dark brown chalk to bring out the cracks, & when the liquid pearls dried, I applied a bit of mocha rose LuminArte…..

I used a couple stencils from crafters workshop, added some lace, seed beads & pearls….

I did not place my photo, or embellish, until after I painted on the watered down gesso & sprayed on Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Old Lace. I have not worked much with gesso, because I don’t like to mask the beautiful paper that I am working with. So again after watching Gabi’s Video, I tried the watered down gesso & was happy to see that it did not cover the paper….

Once the gesso & TA dried,I placed the photo,& embellished. I made the flower out of tulle & cheesecloth, that I had dyed with old lace TA, & usinga part of a old piece of jewelry of my Mothers. After I glued down the flower, I added the ribbon & pearls…

I added a couple metal pieces from Prima….

Here is my 2nd canvas “Way to go Girl”. Renee is my youngest son’s girlfriend. She just received her acceptance letter to go into Law. I am so happy for her,she is Beautiful from the inside, out. I took the photo of Renee in my garden. This canvas is a 11 x 14….

I used 2 collection’s on this canvas, I love how you can combine the Maja Collection’s…

From the Vintage Summer Basics I used: 1891, 1899, & 1932-BS…….

From the Sofiere Collection I used: Princess Margareta’s Garden-BS, Strolling down the Rose Path & Strolling down the Rose Path BS. The chipboard used is from Scrap Fx. Here are some close ups of detail….

I started this canvas by first using a stencil & molding paste on all the outside edges of the canvas. I shrunk Renee’s letter of acceptance & used it on her canvas….

I then did my distressed, stitched layers on my main background piece, then glued that onto the canvas…

I added some wall repair tape, did some stencil work, using molding paste &glued lace onto the background piece. I let the glue dry, then I painted the canvas with watered down gesso, that I had also mixed a little perfect pearls, perfect pearl to give a bit of shimmer & not lose the beautiful paper….

Once the gesso had dried, I placed my photo, & embellished…

On all the lighter pieces of chipboard I used picket fence crackle, & rubbed in a dark brown chalk once the crackle had dried. On the dark pieces I used walnut stain, then black gold Tattered Angels & when that dried I rubbed on some Viva Inka Gold Metallic Rub. On the feather I used Studio Traditional Tan acrylic paint, then rock candy crackle & when that dried I rubbed in some dark brown chalk….

I glued on some seed beads, I with a paint brush, I dabbed on some vintage pink TA,removing the excess with paper towel as I dabbed it on…..

Here is a little Tut I did on the flower that I made for Renee’s canvas, by playing around with some of my lace, tulle, cheesecloth & a piece of my mother’s old jewelry & pearls….

I started with a small chipboard circle. I cut the lace as shown in the photo above….

I then glued 3 pieces of lace to the circle, using a glue gun…

I cut tulle into squares, put a drop of glue into the center of the square, then twisted it until the glue dried. I then glued those 4 pieces of tulle on to the lace…

I then cut out 4 strips of cheesecloth, that I had died with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I glued these pieces down in between the tulle pieces…

Then I glued on 3 more pieces of lace…

Then glued the piece of jewelry, & pearls. These were fun projects to work with. Thank you Gabi for the inspiration, & girls if you haven’t seen Gabi’s Video yet, you should really go & check it out,but be prepared to run out for canvas & stop at the hardware store. Thank you so much for taking the time to look….Rachelle
