I used the Vintage Spring Basics Collection on this LO…..Vintage-Springr-Basics-P

From this collection I used: 2nd of April -BS,3rd of April,3rd of April-BS,4th of April,4th of April-BS,5th of April,5th of April-BS,Days to Remember Sheet & some of the BS’s of the labels. The chipboard is from Scrap Fx. Here are some close ups of detail….

I achieved my texture through, distressing, layering, hand stitching, did some stencil work & decided to add some of odds & ends alpha to add more texture to the LO.

When I completed my stitching I was not happy with it,I found the yellow thread was to bright for the soft yellow in the paper. So I mixed perfect pearls perfect pearls with water, & using a small paint brush, I applied it to my stitch work…..

I used picket fence crackle on the alpha & the kites, & once that dried I rubbed in brown chalk to bring out the cracks….

I scanned the kites, then printed them on reg paper. I used a non permanent adhesive, attached the scanned piece to the Maja paper then cut out all my pieces for the kite. I find this easier & more accurate then tracing….

I scanned my train as I did with the kite. I used liquid pearls on some of the wheels…

This next LO is a very special LO I did for my oldest son’s 32nd  Birthday on August 24th. Sigurdur was born on the same day as my husbands father & my mother. We named Sigurdur after his Afi, he became his namesake. Afi past away 2004. This year on June 4th,sadly my mother past away @ a young age of 76. She had been suffering with Progressive Neuromuscular  Disease & Osteoporosis for the last 6 years. Mom had many falls & fracture, the last one being a hip fracture. This would be Moms 3rd non weight bearing fracture. Mom fractured her hip on Oct 3rd & remained in the hospital for 3.5 months, then I moved her into my home to care for her. We have always lived next door to my parents,so mom would be like a 2nd mother to Sigurdur. Mom loved creating, she could sew, knit & do just about any craft that interested her. Her real passion was gardening. While Mom was living with me we talked lot’s about gardening, as Spring was just around the corner. My gardening style differs from my Mothers, but we have both received many awards on our gardens. My colors in our garden are in the deep fall colors to go with our home. When I became on the DT for Maja Design, I decided that I would stage a garden that would go with some of their beautiful Vintage Collections. The garden area I choose was the tree fort area on the river bank, that my sons built at a very young age & still always go to that area as it is a very peaceful place. It is tucked away from my other garden area’s,so this also allowed me to make a change. Well, I probably drove my Mother crazy, because I was so excited about this garden, & as I started to plant this area I even got more excited,so I would not stop talking about it. When my mom past away I decided to make this garden, a Memory garden of my Mother. Mom had enjoyed watching her grandsons develop this area, & it was the year that I planted all of Mom’s Favorite colors. Mom’s favorite plant was hydrangea’s & I had planted lots of them in this area. With all of my talking, mom wanted me to take her to see this area. It would have been difficult, but I did promise that I would take her when the Hydrangea’s started to bloom. So in this LO I have a photo of Sigurdur,Mom & the memory garden.

Thank you, Rachelle, so much for two beautiful layouts and the touching remembrance of your mother. Your work is always inspiring creatively, and I know your mom would love it.

  • Absolutely breathtaking! Rachelle, you always do the most amazing detail work…it is just a joy to behold. Thank you for sharing your stories behind your pages….it always makes it even that more poignant! I am so sorry for the loss of your beautiful, dear mother…but you have truly captured unexplainable beauty in your memory garden! There is no doubt in my mind that your gardens are truly award-winning!!! I am absolutely in AWE of your gardening talent! I have a few (but large) flower beds that just didn’t receive any attention from me this year…your gorgeous gardens make me wish I had actually put in some effort.
